This post explains you on how to use the Aircel Pocket Internet on your PC / Laptop. For using Aircel Pocket Internet on PC / Laptop , you need a mobile phone which has USB or bluetooth to connect to the PC / laptop. I’ll explain this using the options I have on my previous mobile phone – Sony Ericsson K750i.
I have a Nokia 5800 too which I have successfully connected to PC and browsed using Aircel Pocket internet.Get Aircel Pocket Internet active on your mobile. Once you subscribe, you will receive settings to use it which need to be saved on the mobile phone. On SE K750i, you can see these profiles under Settings > Connectivity > Internet Settings , you may see a number of profiles listed along with “pocket internet” itself. “Pocket Internet” is the profile used to connect to internet and browse on PC / Laptop. Find at what position, “Pocket Internet” profile is listed on the above said section, if its at serial number 1, it is 1. This position is used in the dial up number configured on the PC / laptop.
Connect your mobile phone to PC / Laptop. As said earlier, use USB cable or use bluetooth and make sure it is connected.
Create a new dial up connection (Go to control panel, network and internet connection > Network connections and choose create a new connection). Name it as “Aircel” or something (name isn’t very much dependant).
Choose to set up the connection manually and choose dial up modem. For the dial up modem, keep username and password as blank and the number to dial is *99***1# (if pocket internet is your first profile – see explanation above), or *99***2# if pocket internet is listed as the second profile and so on. Create connection and dial the connection, you should see a status bar indicating that connection is established on successful connection.
Now open your web browser (say IE), go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings and enter the proxy details as 192.168.35.201 and port 8081 , use this proxy for other protocols too.
Now open any page say http://www.google.com/ the page should load if you have followed the instructions as stated above.
The procedure will be almost similar on other mobile phones too, one need to identify the internet profiles listed on the phone, identify the position of the “pocket Internet” settings, create the dial up number accordingly, use the proxy on the browser. It should work on any mobile phone which allows connection to PC / laptop.

How is the speed once it's connected to PC\Laptop
I have got varying speeds from 30kbps to 98kbps, it can vary according to Aircel signal in your area.
Overall, I am satisfied with this when I happened to use it in the absense of a broadband connection, to stay online for mail and chat and for some browsing.
I was admitted to hospital for Dengue fever, Aircel kept me online on my Asus Eee PC and through my SE K750i. This is in Bangalore.
Try out in your area and post your feedback.
Hey brother…i use pocket internet on pc through nokia n70 i am having a big freakin' trouble……..
you'll shock to hear that i use pocket internet only after 12.00am because this is the only time when it lets me do so………
when i try to use it at day or evening time it just keeps disconnecting in about each 30 seconds…… which is so freakin' frustrating lol….
but donno why at night it does well with average speed of 6-7kb/s……
your blog is really helpfull….. plz do suggest me something i can do to fix my problem……… becoz its a nightmare for me to even think about surfing pocket internet before 12.00am(it's an average time)….
plz suggest some solution…..
thanx
Hi Gaurav, do you connect to pc using a USB cable or bluetooth?
To find out the actual issue, first, confirm that you can use pocket internet on mobile without much issues.
Open 2wire.com on mobile and run a speed test. This is from mobile phone.
Post me the results.
Also I would like you to check the USB cable drivers for your phone, if available, please upgrade to the latest version. I had some problems with my Nokia 5800 for copying files, that was a cable driver issue.
6-7 kbps is very less, again depends on the Aircel signal in your area. Have you tried it from a different location?
Hey thanx for the reply……….
well could't run the speed test on my phone just becoz of the periodic disconnection of PI.
nd when i say that speed is 6-7kb/s its the download speed.
i did the speed test on comp. and it came to b 0.09mb/s…….
i dont really feel that it's an issue of cable driver………
bcause it works perfect at night…
m quite happy wid the speed but when it disconnets periodically in about 45-70 min, its so freakin' irritating…..
nd yeah… i m using it through the usb cable
thanx
when you say try from some other location then let me say that i'v tried it almost all over the delhi (m a roamer)…. and i think i could get the best speed in my location… there are place in delhi where it does't even work…….
Question–
if i use the PI while on roaming with 98 plan… like out of delhi……
is it going to charge me somethin' extra?
It looks like the problem with GPRS signal to me.
Did you reach out to Aircel customer care on this issue?
Any one else is facing similar issues in your area?
yeah… i went to their Aircel customer care centre…
their it was working properly (on mobile)… there have amplifiers installed in the centre so it works well inside their center…
nd yes a frnd of mine is facing the same prob. the other frnd is not even able to access it from his area…
nd dont even talk about the customer care call centre… they just give wrong info that they'll b calling u soon or it'll b fine by 24 hours… but they never work it out…….
hey what should i do if my postpaid connection bill of tata is not genuine and they ask me to pay it..
call limit was 1500
they increased it without asking to 1800
they made a fake bill of 6000 (i did't pay)
then they made it 10000
nd now they ask to pay it…
Well, I may not be that an expert to answer your bill related question.
I have an Airtel postpaid, where once when it reached someone from Airtel called me and informed me that there is a previous unpaid bill and the usage is nearing the existing limit.
Did similar communication was given to you? Ideally they should be behind you to inform that you are nearing / or crossing the bill limit.
Well, even with 1800 limit, 6000 and 10000 bill is too high. Talk to them straight else take it to consumer forum. Ask for a detailed bill why it went that high.
thnanx for all ur replies frnd
Hey… do you know?
Airtel has come up with some new internet plans which can b used with mobile as well as comp.
Here is a brief…
* 10 Rs — for one day, 3mb download.
* 26 RS — for a week, 15 mb download.
* 95 Rs — for a month, 100 mb download.
well I took 26 Rs plan (thought i'll use it for a week),but after surfing for an hour i did't have any more free usage (as the free usage of 15mb was lost in surfing), I did't download anything.
whats your verdict?
REGARDS
Gaurav
Hi Gaurav,
Thanks for updating!
Well, is it available all over india? I am yet to check Airtel Karnataka for this.
By the way, the plan looks good for mailing – one who uses an email client (thunderbird/outlook) can benefit from these plans as it uses less bandwidth for text mails.
Other than that for browsing I feel it is very less , especially the 3MB plan which is very less while using on a laptop. It will run out within no time!
I hope they still have the mobile office daily and weekly plans, I will be roaming this month end and I need them
@Gaurav, did you check the speed of Airtel 26 Rs plan?
Well…. donno 'bout the availability in all over India…
No I did't check the speed but the speed was like 'okay' for surfing (was't too good nd not too bad either). but the fact that there was't any disconnections in the session was good.
SIR, I HAVE SAMSUNG E1410 WITH AIRCEL AND IM USING BLUETOOTH. BUT AFTER LOTS OF TRYING IT SHOWS (ERR 777 The connection attempt fails because the modem on the remote computer is out of order) or like this type ERR. My bluetooth is working fine for transfering file. PLZ HELP. MY ID sss.skr@gmail.com
@ss,
I cannot give you phone specific instructions, as I have not used the same model you are using.
Make sure the serial port networking on your pc is started to make the connection with your phone.
File transfer and serial port networking is different, check your bluetooth places and start the serial port networking for your phone on the pc. Then try the dialler. It should connect.
hi Mr. Ramkumar the connection u mentioned of dial up modem is not satisfactory for me.
i am fom orissa ..and using aircel 98 pack..when i configure the dial up system and dial.at last it says "subsribe to packet data first".
it works well in my mobile.i connect it through usb. data cable.
please give some suggestions
@SUNESH, it has to be some configuration error somewhere on your side. Make sure that you use the correct dial up number, it could be that you were dialing a wrong APN.
Dear Ramkumar
when you say “…..and the number to dial is *99***1# …”, which is that number? Is it that stars indicate numbers to be entered or stars are stars themselves?
That’s the dial up number you need to use while creating / using a dial up connection on your PC / Laptop.
Thanks ramkumar.
what you said I understood. But there isn’t any number provided by the pocket internet card. (the latest offer: for a Rs14 card, you can activate and unlimited browsing for 3 days. I bought the card and tried to set the connection as per the instruction from the customer care. But WAP is not getting activated. Since for computer browsing WAP is not reqiured, I tried for pc connection and saw your blog. But struck at the number part)
@anilkumar, this number will be used by the PC to use the right internet profile on your phone.
You do not need anything like the dial up number for browsing on phone..
Was that the confusion you were on?
sorry to trouble you. I got the last number stuff; in my case it’s 6. my confusion is about only the “99***” , where do the stars represent some numbers(if any given by the service provider) or am I supposed to type only stars?
@anilkumar , no prob
In the number *99***1# what you can replace is only the digit ‘1′ rest all ‘*’s and ‘#’s need to be used as it is!
Ok, that cleared my doubts. thanks a lot Mr.Ramkumar. It’s been a great help. Please carry on with such useful blogs.
I have done all this but still not able to connect…
@Neytri , are you able to browse on the phone?
Hi Ramkumar,
I’m back again to trouble you. I’m not able to get connected to net, on PC.
After the dialing, the messages are: “verifying ur user name & password” and then “registering your computer to the network”; the second message stays for while and then gives a n error message :” TCP/IP CP error 718:remote computer did not respond in timely manner……”.
what to do now?
(the customer-care suggestions did’t help. BTW,I’m able to connect to the net on phone)
@anilkumar , which handset you are using?
Are you trying to connect the mobile phone to PC using Bluetooth or the USB cable? It could be that the PC couldn’t establish a connection with your phone.
If you are using Bluetooth you may check the services running on your Bluetooth device and check whether the serial port service is enabled.
Hi ramkumar,
sorry for the delay; I was a bit busy and away from the subject for the last 2 weeks.
I was trying to connect through USB. The handset is Fly2080.(all settings have been done according to the set).
Inadequate signal strength may also be a villain.
Thanks a lot for spending time on this
Hi Ramkumar,
I am using aircel 98 PI plan. I am able to connect my laptop with cell phone using bluthooth, but my major concern is browsing and downloading speed.
It takes around 2 to 3 mins to open any mail (yahoomail .. etc).
and downloading speed is 1 to 3 kb/sec. I am using Windows Vista and cell phone is Nokia 3110c.
I tried to increase browsing and downloading speed by installing some softwares (IDM, Proxifire) but nothing worked.
can cell phone model be the reason of slow speed??
Aircel Network is OK if not great in my area.
Could you please help me to solve my issues related to speed.
Thanks in advance.
